Up, close and personnel with beauty queen Mrs India 2017 Dr. Duyu Meena Mudang

Crown with purpose

Dr. Duyu Meena Mudang is the new face that proves that beauty does not
fade with marriage after being crowned Mrs India 2017 at Chennai in
July.

Born to Duyu Sambyo and Duyu Rinyo, she is from a beautiful place
called Reru in Lower Subansiri District popularly known as Apatani
Plateau of Arunachal Pradesh.

She wears other hats too, a homoeopathy doctor, successful
entrepreneur, mother and wife.

Meena, from a family of six, grew up in Reru in a close-knit
environment. Life has however not always been bliss for her as she
faced many challenges while growing up. Which moulded her into
becoming the strong goal-chasing woman she is today.

From being Miss Subansiri 1997 to Mrs Arunachal 2010 to Mrs India
2017, here’s what Dr Duyu Meena Mudang has to say on her journey to be
crowned as Mrs India 2017.

Chow Bilaseng Namchoom (CBN) : Right now, you must be at the top of
the world after winning the coveted title of Mrs India 2017, tell me
your journey to it.

Duyu Meena Mudang (DMM): I must say the entire journey was incredible
and worth lived each beautiful moment, to which me and my entire
family will treasure forever and ever in Love Some Memories of our
Life.

CBN : Every beauty queen has her own story to tell about her success
in taking home the crown. Tell me yours?

DMM: Being the first one in the entire history of Arunachal Pradesh
and the first Tribal Women from the entire Northeast India to win the
coveted title of MRS INDIA 2017, which is the most prestigious and
Largest National Platform for Indian Married Women, which is gateway
to the Premium International Pageants.

When I decided to take part in Mrs India 2017 beauty pageant, my
journey started by giving online audition in the month of October
2016, then audition for Northeast at Shillong on 10th December 2016,
where I emerged as the winner and qualified for Semi-finals, then next
I had to compete with Northern states and West Bengal apart from
Northeast states at Mrs India North 2017, which was held at Radisson
Blue, New Delhi from 5th to 8th April 2017. From there, I qualified
for National Grand Finale which was held at Feathers Hotel, Chennai
from 3rd to 5th July 2017, where I had to compete with all the 46
Winners from respective Zones from all over India and Overseas. And
finally I was crowned MRS INDIA 2017.

The journey was really tough, very long and too strenous but I could
managed to bring home the most prestigious title and the crown of Mrs
India 2017, is only because of my Husband Mr. Mudang Tacho.

Yes, when my husband said, " EVEN IF THE WHOLE WORLD IS NOT WITH YOU,
WHEN YOUR HUSBAND IS THERE WITH YOU, WHY DO YOU WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING?
JUST TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND GIVE YOUR BEST."

It's true that even if the whole world was with me and if my husband
was not with me, I would have never been able to give the best out of
me.

Moreover, I had my strongest support from my in-laws along with my
Family and Relatives and all the Well Wishers.

And thus I moved ahead highly enlightened in my spirit and could give
my 100% into it.

I thank my Good God for everything.

CBN : The people from North-eastern States in mainland India are
treated as alien, did you ever feel alienated and if other beauty
pageants called you by another name?

DMM:  It's really unfortunate that now and then we keep hearing about
such untoward incidents happened with our fellow people and I really
feel sorry for them.

And as such, I had been asked the same question many a times by media
persons as well as some of the organisations and common people too.

But to be frank and honest, I was always fortunate enough to have had
never experienced such awkward situations throughout my journey of Mrs
India 2017.

Rather, I was highly appreciated, encouraged, acknowledged, accepted
and above all Loved by all the people I met in this journey right from
the National Director, Regional Directors, co-contestants as well as
their family members.

Many a times we only tend to share the bitter experiences which
spreads like a wild fire, and the good things are forgotten and not
shared which gets disappeared into the thin air.

So, today I take this opportunity to express my views on this matter
that India is a Mini World comprising of diverse Ethnicity, Culture,
Tradition and Beliefs. There are few bad people polluting the entire
Community but not all the people are bad. Hope is still there. And of
course, the greatest challenge being Peaceful Co-existence in Harmony.

CBN : How are the woman being treated in the Arunachal Tribal
Society? What is the relevance of a beauty pageants in the tribal
society? Do you think that beauty pageant contributes positive effects
to society?

DMM:  In my opinion, compare to some of the existing very orthodox and
too conservative society in our own country, I feel most of the tribal
women in Arunachal except for some living in remotest areas are
enjoying almost equal status at par with the man except for some
reservations for man in inheriting the ancestral property rights.

At present scenario, most of the girl child are not deprived of Right
to Education and the incidence of Female Foeticide is very low compare
to the other States.

Relevance of beauty pageants in the tribal society is nothing but one
more way to uplift and empower our women to see the wider world out of
the boundary of stereotypical kitchen material and to see better
herself in many ways.

I believe each one of us we are blessed with different inherent
qualities to be an Athlete or a Cook or any Artists etc. Not all can
become Mary Kom, not all can become Amitabh Bachan and so on. And
likewise, not all can become a Beauty Queen. But each of them inspires
many in their own respective fields of their expertises.

And as such, I strongly believe that beauty pageants contribute
positive effects to society provided the Aspiring Ladies doesn't
choose the Wrong Pageants only for the sake of easy winning any title
or crown and are not getting exploited in the process.

Because beauty pageants grooms you in many ways and helps you to find
your Self Worth by helping you to build up your Confidence level to
let you realise Who, What, Where and How you can be.

And moreover, it gives the common Platform to Voice Your Choice with
Essence, be the Ambassador of Goodwill and Peace, and to signify your
Advocacy for the Cause You Choose.

CBN : In what ways did the beauty contest help you being the woman?

DMM:  We are Women who are  Eternally Beautiful, for we are the God's
greatest creation so far, being blessed with the Womb to Nurture and
Nourish the New Life. Except for few, most of the girls loves to be
the Princess and most of the Women loves to be the Queen. And we all
always wear that invisible crown irrespective of our age.

And thus, beauty contests make us realise, No Man is Beautiful in this
World because the word BEAUTY is only associated with the Female
Species.

CBN : You looked pretty and marvellous in your costume at the pageant.
Who was your designer? What do you have to say to them?

DMM:  Well, I always love to design for myself for I best know myself
what will make me Comfortable to look Confident.

And as such, when I told what, how and which I want to wear, Smt. Taba
Akaa Nabam and her entire team of Akaa Creations understood it so well
and created my choice of dresses.

And my traditional attire in National Grand Finale was designed by my
own younger sister Miss Duyu Asha.

All the accessories were not only created but also entirely sponsored
by AMG accessories which is owned by Mrs Tadu Amung Lollen.

All the shoes by renowned International Luxury Footwear designer based
in Italy, Miss Filafi Fithu from Nagaland, who even sponsored some of
the shoes.

I would like to thank each one of them from core of my heart for being
part of my winning Mrs India 2017.

CBN : What is success for you? What is the most important lesson you
would give as a mother to your children?

DMM:  Success for me is being contented with what you have achieved
because success has no meaning if you are not happy and satisfied with
what you have got finally.

The most important lesson I would like to give to my Children as a
mother would be to let them know that,

" They are the Owner of their Past,

The Master of their Present and

The Slave of their Future."

Owner of past because good or bad they have to live with it.

Master of present because it's still in their control to choose how to
live the present moment.

Slave of tomorrow because they never know what future holds for them,
it may bring them happiness or sorrow, for which they have to be well
prepared to accept whatsoever may come next.

And to value Humanity above everything.

CBN : Tell me about the recent goals you accomplished in the pageant world.

DMM:  The recent goals I've accomplished in the pageant world is no
doubt bringing home the most prestigious National title and Crown of
Mrs India 2017 for the first time in the entire history of Arunachal
Pradesh and for the entire Northeast as a whole.

But even more accomplished than that was the Expansion of Human
Relationships I made in this process from across the Country and
Overseas with different backgrounds and culture, by winning the hearts
of my co-contestants as well as their family members.

Therefore, I would like to thank the entire team of Mrs India and
especially to the National Director, Mrs Deepali Phadnis for giving us
this platform to showcase our Beauty, Glamour, Talent and Diverse
Culture.

As such, it's an Honour for me to be able to represent my State in
such a prestigious National Platform.

Because some will remember me as Doctor or Duyu or Meena or Mudang but
all will remember I was from and represented the Land of Rising Sun
"ARUNACHAL PRADESH".

CBN : What are the sacrifices you have made for this pageant?

DMM:  Apart from my own sacrifices which is obvious, but the greater
sacrifices were made by my Husband and my Children to have had
sacrificed those precious moments not spent with me.

And the greatest sacrifices were made by my Parents and Siblings who
had to sacrifice their personal time and whole energy in taking care
of my Three Children and the Home, by passing sleepless nights.

So, I owe my Crown to them because without their Support and
sacrifices, this successful journey was never possible.

CBN : What was that magic wand that turned the most introvert girl to
become a role model?

DMM:  Due to the Side Effects of our existing Polygamous Society, I
along with my Siblings had a very bad and hard phases of childhood as
well as adulthood days, apart from my Father and Mother's those hard
days.

And as such, I grew up thinking that I was the most ugly and imperfect
human being ever existing on earth. My confidence level was degraded
to such an extent that I struggled even to tell my name in school or
in public. Was reluctant even to make friends or to meet people.

But slowly when I started converting every OBSTACLE into
OPPORTUNITIES, I started to realise that,

" WHATEVER HAPPENS, IT HAPPENS FOR THE BEST AND BETTER."

Because Everything has got its Own Season and Reason. And thus,
accepting What Cannot Be Cured Has To Be Endured. And then my
Determination and Perseverance paid off.

CBN : What bothers you most about what is happening in your state today?

DMM:  What bothers me most about what's happening in our state at the
present scenario is the Rapid but Haphazard Development at the cost of
threatening to the Environment due to which Nature is showing its fury
in the form of Massive Landslides, Unexpected Floods, Pollutions etc.
Which equally affects all the walks of life irrespective of their
status and stature.

We should realise at the earliest that we have only one planet to live
in. And the Environment what we are enjoying today were preserved by
our forefathers for us and what we are massively destructing today is
being borrowed from our next generation.

If we don't give back to it now, our planet will be no more suitable
for our children and next generation to live in.

CBN : How could you adjust your professional life with that of social life?

DMM:  It's really challenging sometime to balance the both but it's
also true that being active in Social Life makes a person more
Productive towards one's Professional Life too, for it teaches the one
to become more Sensible and to have the Will to take up Greater
Responsibilities.

Like, just few months back, I was posted as the first Doctor in a
Dispensary which was lying defunct since 16 (Sixteen) long years with
decapitated structures without even a place to sit and work. I started
working on it single handedly without any support system in form of
staffs or fund or any other amenities, but only with my empty hopes
and the will to revive it by any means.

I took huge help from my family in terms of Manpower and Materials, I
also would like to thank Indian Oil Corporation for helping in Social
Service, Mudang Laling Charitable trust for donating the Dispensary
Sign Board, Deputy Director Urban Development and Housing Mr. Gyamar
Tachung, who showed his generosity by agreeing to help me revive it on
Charity basis. I'm thankful to All Lor Bath Youth Association (ALBYA)
lead by Mr. Tadar Nungki for their kind cooperation and above all to
the District Medical Officer, Papum Pare, Dr. Tasso Kampu Subu for
having full faith on me and my calibre.

And today, the 16 years old defunct Homeopathic Dispensary is
functional though it still needs lots of attention and hardwork in
which I'm still working on. The first ever Flag Hosting was
successfully done on 15th August 2017 with few staffs already with me
now.

Therefore, I honestly thank Mrs India for making me a more Sensible
person to serve the purpose of Beauty with Heart and Purpose.

As Mrs India doesn't look for Models but they look for Role Models and
they make Role Models.

CBN : You are a founder member of Mudang Laling Charitable Trust and
NGO Smile. Tell me something about it?

DMM:  Mudang Laling Charitable Trust is formed with the vision to
provide any possible right means of Livelihood to the underprivileged
ones, the project that is so close to my Husband's heart. It is still
in its formative stage now and highly hope it gets materialized soon
and serves its purpose in days to come.

Registered NGO SMILE is Society For Multi Dimensional Innovative Lead
In Education And Environment. Therefore, we actively participated in
Clean Kley River drive, Organised Literary competitions, Imparted
massive Awareness at Ziro for the World Heritage Site for Apatani
Cultural Landscape, enlisted by UNESCO, Actively participated in
SWACCH SURVEKSHAN 2017 at Itanagar and SWACCH BHARAT ABHIYAAN at
Doimukh, Conducted free Eye check-up camps and Safe drive Awareness
camps at Doimukh and Kimin.

And we will keep moving ahead for the greater causes.

CBN : Which role of a man compliments a woman better - father, son, or
a partner?

DMM:  Above all the roles a man plays, the most complementing role of
a Man to a Woman I feel is being her ideal partner because when a man
and a woman decides to unite as a companion for life in the most
Sacred Institution called Marriage, they never know what future holds
for them in store. They may even not be fortunate enough to become a
father or a mother. Therefore, they should stand grounded to the
promises they made to each other to equally share the life events
together whatsoever comes their way.

I believe good partner will always prove to be a Good Son as well as a
Good Father too.

CBN : Tell me about your married life. Where and how did you meet the
man of your dreams?

DMM:  The greatest thing that has ever happened to me so far in my
life is finding my Husband.

Since my childhood days, I grew up seeing many types of people around
me right from my families, relatives, friends and others, but I have
never seen or come across any greater Human Being than my husband Mr
Mudang Tacho. Who never has the attitude or ego problems, who is
always ready to help others by any possible ways without expecting
anything in return, who always sees and respects and appreciates the
good qualities of others instead of fault finding in them, who always
takes solace in helping the weaker and downtrodden segments of people,
who never has any grudges on anybody, too harmless, Simplest and
humble. He's a Soldier who works and sacrifices himself silently for
the betterment of everyone behind the screen even without expecting to
be appreciated or acknowledged.

I've become a much better person after meeting him in my life. I've
silently learnt many good things from him and I'm still learning each
passing day.

But of course, as such I don't much appreciate him in front of him
(after all, I being a typical wife material) but I do genuinely and
truly respect him from deep within.

We met in an accident when he hit and ran over my youngest sister by
his scooter, when she was in Kindergarten and who is now a Doctor. I
was in high school and he was in B.E second year. So, that was the
Magical turning point in my life.

Those days we had no social media or mobile to keep connected. The
first line in his first proposal letter was..

" DESTINY HAS ARRANGED IN A VERY SPECIAL WAY TO BRING US CLOSE TOGETHER "

And down the memory lane since then, we have already lived together
for more than two decades now but we still feel as if we have just met
😉

CBN : After your success, you met the Hon’ble Union MoS (Home) Kiren
Rijiju and Hon’ble Chief Minister Pema Khandu. What words of advice
did they give you?

DMM:  I have no enough words to express my gratitude to our Hon'ble
Chief Minister Mr Pema Khandu Sir and Hon'ble Union Minister of State
for Home Affairs Mr Kiren Rijiju Sir.

I'm humbled and overwhelmed by their such precious and mesmerizing
words of appreciation and encouragement for me and the entire
Womenfolk as a whole.

Such kind and valuable words of encouragement, acknowledgement and
recognition in true spirit by such a Prolific and Dynamic Visionary
Leaders will strongly help me to grow my wings stronger to fly more
focused towards the better destination for the betterment of society
in every possible ways.

I truly feel honoured.

CBN : You are all set to represent India at the coveted Mrs Planet
pageant in Bulgaria.  What do you expect to gain by participating in
the pageants? Why?

DMM:  Yes, I'm representing India as Green Ambassador in Mrs Planet to
be held at Sofia, Bulgaria next month in October.

Whether I bring home the International Crown or not I'm definitely
going to gain a lot by participating in this Premium and most
Prestigious International Pageant of Mrs Planet 2017, with the purpose
so close to my heart.

Because, Mrs Planet is the Beauty Pageant which Advocates the most
Significant, Relevant and Valuable Cause towards Protecting the
Rapidly Deteriorating Environment due to the Inevitable and
Uncontrollable Haphazard Developmental Activities.

As we have only One Planet to live in, this pageant strongly advocates
for Green Planet, so that each one of us realise it now to Act Now.

CBN : Recently, on National Sports Day celebration you shared the dais
with the stunning beauty who is Top 15 finalist of Femina Miss India
2017 Miss Licha Thosum. How was the moment like?

DMM:  We had quality time together. And I being an elder as well as
senior in the pageantry world for more than 20 (twenty) long years
now, I gave her some pieces of advices which she took wholeheartedly
and acknowledged me, to which I really appreciate.

I've already lived almost the full phase of a women's life, being
completed the studies, doing the job for livelihood, already married,
being the mother of three adorable Children. And now, what has left is
to become a Mother-in-law of my Only Daughter's husband and my Two
Son's wives. And then finally to become the Grandmother at least if
not Great Grandmother, the ultimate dream of almost every women.

But for some of the beautiful and talented young ladies of our State
like Licha Thosum and Chum Darang, they still have their ample of time
to explore and chase for their dreams. I'm so proud of them for they
dared to grow their wings for themselves to fly high to explore the
bigger and wider side of the world for the best out of this one life.

I only wish for all our aspiring ladies to be Dignified, to have the
Self Respect and to never get Exploited by any means.

Because the struggles and failures are just temporary but the Life is
Large even beyond our own imagination.

CBN : If God granted you one wish, what would you wish for?

DMM:  If it's only one wish that I'm permitted to seek, then I'll
definitely Pray for the Guaranteed Equal Lifespan for Everyone.

Because we are born once and will die sure. But the period in between
that which is called LIFE is so unpredictable and uncertain. No one
knows how long they are going to live. Some of the harmless good
Samaritans die untimely early and some of the most harmful elements in
 the society even live longer.

One life of each and everyone should have been equally guaranteed is
what I wish for Everyone.

CBN : Thank you so much for sparing your precious time to talk to me.
If you had one message to the world, what would it be?

DMM: It's my pleasure. Thank you so much. My one message to the whole
world would be to " EXPAND YOUR HORIZON OF TOLERANCE "

Because INTOLERANCE is the root cause of all the evils like Hatred,
Jealousy and even War. Intolerance for other Communities, beyond
Borders, other Religions, other Cultures, other Customs and other
Traditions etc.

If we'll expand our horizon of Tolerance then we'll learn to
Appreciate others differences and we'll be able to expand our horizon
of Acceptance too in all aspects and it's possible that we all will
Peacefully Co-exist in Harmony.

With Love and good wishes, Dr. Duyu Meena Mudang Mrs India 2017
